One of the reasons people decide to learn a foreign language is because they enjoy the sound of it. That is certainly what happened to me when I decided to learn French, for instance, and that is also what I have observed over the years with my students.
This blog is a way of organising the songs I collected - and that right now are all "kept" in several different files. Also, they may be useful for someone who wants to learn Portuguese (Twitter´s second language!). Songs are a great way to do it. They help students to improve their pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, and their cultural knowledge of the countries where Portuguese is spoken. Most of the songs are from Brazil, but there are also some from other lusophone countries. I will be posting in English, but occasionally I might do it in Portuguese or French (pour mes élèves au Lycée).

Since I first started teaching PFL (Portuguese as a Foreign Language) this has always been my first song. It is jazzy, catchy, the words are simple and students are always very happy to leave the classroom singing in Portuguese after just one lesson. Besides, it was written by one of our most famous and important composers: Tom Jobim.
Some possible learning objectives: grammar (simple present, simple past), auxiliary verb (ir).
